Overnight Stays

23 Hour Overnight Stays

Various outpatient surgical procedures performed at Unity Surgical Center require that the patient be observed by our nursing staff for longer periods of time following surgery. Our overnight suites allow patients to recover in a private room with discharge expected no more than 23 hours after entering the preoperative area. For your safety we will not discharge anyone past 11 p.m. If you are scheduled for an overnight stay, a family member may stay with you if desired. For patients under 18 years of age, we require that a parent or guardian remain with the child. Meals may be delivered to you in the overnight suites, if it is medically appropriate to advance your diet. Our staff will be happy to assist you in ordering from local restaurants, or your family may bring food.

Discharge

You will be discharged home when you have met discharge criteria which include: a reasonable level of comfort, minimal or no nausea, and ability to drink oral fluids.

After receiving anesthesia, or sedation, or pain medications, it is normal to feel drowsy. You will need a responsible caregiver to drive you home. Your discharge instructions will be explained to you, and you will receive a written copy for reference while recovering at home.

Recovering at Home

It is very important to follow the discharge instructions written by your physician and explained to you by your nurse. If you have questions once you leave the surgical center, you must call your physician for answers. If you have serious complications, call 911 or go to the nearest Emergency Room at the hospital of your choice immediately.

You will receive a post-operative telephone call from a staff member a couple of days following the procedure so that we can ensure you are on the road to recovery.
